Swollen Gums Indicating Too Much Plaque Build Up On Teeth And Gums

The serious infections of the gums refers to periodontal or gum disease with which if left without any or delayed treatments can lead to swollen gums, gum irritation, gum recession, mobile or shaky teeth contributing tooth loss. The word "periodontal" literally means "around the tooth." The gums and the bone supporting the teeth are affected by a chronic bacterial infection called periodontal disease. Untreated gum disease can become very serious causing a tooth or teeth to fall out. The disease can affect one or many teeth at some point in time. Usually, the disease starts off with the build up of bacteria in plaque which is the sticky, colorless film that constantly accumulates and forms on the surface of teeth and along the gum margin causing gums to become irritated and inflamed.
